Renewable Heat Incentive 2011
Install heat generating renewables and reap the rewards in 2011 and beyond
The Renewable Heat Incentive or RHI is a financial incentive for individuals and companies wanting to install heat-generating renewable technologies in buildings within the UK.
The budget for the scheme is £860 million over four years.
Chris Huhne announced the details of the scheme on 10th March 2011. The renewable heat incentive will be introduced in two phases. The first phase will begin in June 2011, the second phase in October 2012.
In the first phase, long-term tariff support will be targeted in the non-domestic sectors, at the big heat users - the industrial, business and public sector. Under this phase there will also be support of around £15 million for households through the Renewable Heat Premium Payment.
From 1st August, grants for the following technologies will be available:
Ground Source Heat Pump - £1250 grant (for homes without mains gas heating)
Biomass boiler - £950 grant (for homes without mains gas heating)
Air source heat pump - £850 grant (for homes without mains gas heating)
Solar thermal hot water panels - £300 grant
(available to all households regardless of the type of heating system used)
The second phase of the RHI scheme will see households moved to the same form of long-term tariff support offered to the non-domestic sector in the first phase. This transition will be timed to align with the Green Deal which is intended to be introduced in October 2012.
